Aluminium windows in Saxilby for an award-winning eco-home

At Fossdyke Paddock, we supplied and installed aluminium windows in Saxilby for a canal-side development of six eco-homes. The scheme was the first residential project from Chiselwood, and it went on to win Residential Property of the Year at the Greater Lincolnshire Construction and Property Awards. It was also highly commended for Sustainable Project of the Year.

The brief

Every home at Fossdyke Paddock was designed around low energy use. The houses are timber-framed, fully insulated and heated by air source heat pumps, so the glazing had to protect that performance rather than undermine it.

At the same time, the architecture is striking, with open-plan living on the first floor and ceilings up to 5.5 metres high. As a result, the windows needed to look as good as they performed.

Why we chose aluminium windows for Saxilby

First, our team surveyed every opening on site. Then we designed and specified premium aluminium windows to suit each elevation.

Aluminium was the right choice for several reasons. Its strength allows slim frames, so more of each opening is glass and more daylight reaches the living spaces. It also stands up well to the weather, which matters on a canal-side site surrounded by woodland. In addition, it needs very little maintenance over its lifetime.

Throughout the project, we worked closely with Martin and the team at Chiselwood. That way, the windows fitted the build programme and matched the high standard of finish Chiselwood is known for from its bespoke kitchens and furniture.

The result

The finished homes pair bold, contemporary design with low running costs. For us, the project shows what aluminium windows can do on a sustainable build, and Saxilby now has six eco-homes that are as efficient as they are beautiful.
